Sri Lanka investment advisory firm wins Harvard competition

Apr 11, 2014 (LBO) - York Street Partners (Pvt) Ltd, a Sri Lanka based boutique investment advisory firm had won a competition held by Harvard Business School, leading the region.

It was placed first in the '2014 Alumni New Venture Competition' for South and South East Asia held by the US-based business school.

Nayana Mawilmada and Hiran Embuldeniya, Harvard Business School alumni accompanied by Sharini Kulasinghe had participated in the competition.

The firm quoted Ravi Gururaj, a member of the panel of judges as saying that the firm had "delivered an outstanding pitch which combined a robust albeit nascent business opportunity" with the school mission of making a difference in the world.

York Street Partners had recently arranged a cros-border equity investment into Commercial Credit and Finance, a non-bank lender focused on small and medium enterprises.

It expecting to move into other asset classes including private equity, real estate and fixed income funds.

In this journey, York Street Partners has succeeded in attracting and unifying Sri Lankan talent with international capital market experience working in organizations such as Goldman Sachs, McKinsey, ADB and Deutsche Bank.

The firm said it has an advisory board which include Mahesh Amalean (Chairman and Founder MAS Group), Eric Rajendra (ex-McKinsey Partner, Senior IFC Advisor) and Mohan Chandramohan (founder and ex-CEO of NYSE listed ARC).
